Elastic Gridshells and Construction aware Structural design
Olivier Baverel, professor de l’École des Ponts Paristech i l’Escola d’Arquitectura de Grenoble, parlarà de les eines de disseny i construcció de gridshells (closques reticulars), i construction aware structural design. La conferencia tindrà lloc el dijous 10 de maig a les 19:30h a la sala d'actes de la UPC School a Barcelona.
Gridshells són estructures que es poden prendre directament des d'una configuració plana fins a la seva forma final. Aquest tipus d'estructura té molts passos de disseny que són bastant difícils de dominar, però és bastant senzill de construir. La conferència se centrarà en la fase de disseny, mostrant les eines utilitzades i les limitacions matemàtiques. L'última part de la conferència tindrà una visió més àmplia i general del disseny estructural conscient de la construcció.

Olivier Baverel is a professor at the École des Ponts Paristech in Structural Engineering, where he is also a head of "Computational Design" in the advanced master Design by Data and professor at the School of Architecture of Grenoble.
He is a researcher at the labs Navier and GSA. Olivier is editor in chief of the international journal of space structures. His researches are on structural engineering, rationalization of the construction of free-form structures and life cycle analysis. He also developed some structural concepts such as elastics gridshells in CFRP, nexorades.
Elastic gridshells are structures that can be taken directly from a flat configuration to their final shape. This type of structure has many design steps that are quite difficult to master but is rather simple to construct. The lecture will focus on the design stage, showing the tools used and the mathematical limitations. The last part of the lecture will have a broader and general view of the construction aware structural design.
