L'estudi RCR, Premi Pritzker d'arquitectura 2017
1 març 2017_ En Rafael Aranda (1961), la Carme Pigem (1962) i en Ramon Vilalta (1960) han obtingut el 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize, segons va anunciar l'1 de març Tom Pritzker, president de la Hyatt Foundation, que patrocina el premi que es reconeix internacionalment com a màxim honor en el camp de l'arquitectura i que ha arribat a la seva 39 edició.
Tots tres arquitectes van acabar els seus estudis a l'Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Vallès, ETSAV, el 1987, on també van ser professors d'urbanisme, paisatge i projectes fins el 2001. Van fundar el despatx RCR Arquitectes a la seva ciutat natal d'Olot el 1988.
D'acord amb l'acta del jurat, «el seu treball demostra un sòlid compromís amb el lloc i la seva narrativa, capaç de crear espais que dialoguen amb els seus respectius contexts. Harmonitzant materialitat i transparència, Aranda, Pigem i Vilalta busquen connexions entre l'exterior i l'interior, que condueixen a una arquitectura de l'emoció i l'experiència [...].
Tom Pritzker ha remarcat que "el jurat ha seleccionat tres arquitectes que han estat treballant conjuntament durant gairebé tres dècades. Aranda, Pigem i Vilalta han tingut una influència en la disciplina que va molt més enllà del seu estricte àmbit de treball. Les seves obres van des d'espais públics i privats fins a equipaments culturals i institucions educatives. La seva intensa capacitat de relació amb l'entorn específic de cada actuació és un testimoni del seu procés i profunda integritat [...]."
Els arquitectes evoquen la identitat universal a través d'un treball d'arrel local mitjançant un ús creatiu i extensiu de materials moderns que inclouen acer reciclat i plàstic. "Han demostrat que la unitat del material pot proporcionar una increïble força i simplicitat a un edifici," diu Glenn Murcutt, president del jurat. "La col·laboració entre els tres arquitectes produeix una arquitectura sense concessions i de nivell poètic; un treball atemporal que mostra un gran respecte pel passat, alhora que projecta una claredat pròpia del present i del futur [...]."
Alguns projectes notables inclouen el centre d'art La Cuisine (Nègrepelisse, França, 2014), el museu Soulages conjuntament amb G. Trégouët (Rodez, França, 2014), l'espai públic La Lira en col·laboració amb J. Puigcorbé (Ripoll, 2011), la marquesina del restaurant Les Cols (Olot, 2011), l'escola bressol El Petit Comte juntament amb J. Puigcorbé (Besalú, 2010), el celler Bell-Lloc (Palamós, 2007), la biblioteca Sant Antoni - Joan Oliver i centre per a gent gran Cándida Pérez (Barcelona, 2007), i la pista d'atletisme Tossol-Basil (Olot, 2000)».

Rafael Aranda (1961), Carme Pigem (1962) and Ramon Vilalta (1960) have been selected as the 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureates, announced Tom Pritzker, Chairman of Hyatt Foundation, which sponsors the 39th edition of the award that is known internationally as architecture’s highest honor.
They completed their studies in architecture at the Vallès School of Architecture, ETSAV, in 1987, where they also taught urbanism, landscape architecture and design until 2001. They founded a studio, RCR Arquitectes, in their native city of Olot, in the Spanish province of Girona, in 1988.
According to the Jury, «their work demonstrates an unyielding commitment to place and its narrative, to create spaces that are in discourse with their respective contexts. Harmonizing materiality with transparency, Aranda, Pigem and Vilalta seek connections between the exterior and interior, resulting in emotional and experiential architecture [...].
Mr. Tom Pritzker remarks: “The jury has selected three architects who have been working collaboratively for nearly three decades. Mr. Aranda, Ms. Pigem and Mr. Vilalta have had an impact on the discipline far beyond their immediate area. Their works range from public and private spaces to cultural venues and educational institutions, and their ability to intensely relate the environment specific to each site is a testament to their process and deep integrity [...].”
The locally-based architects evoke universal identity through their creative and extensive use of modern materials including recycled steel and plastic. “They’ve demonstrated that unity of a material can lend such incredible strength and simplicity to a building,” says Glenn Murcutt, Jury Chair. “The collaboration of these three architects produces uncompromising architecture of a poetic level, representing timeless work that reflects great respect for the past, while projecting clarity that is of the present and the future [...].”
