Objectives:

The Virtual Campus e-archi.doc is an operational tool to be developed by the partnership proposing this project, aiming at the creation of a collaborative post Masters and doctorate educational virtual environment. The aims of this project develop upon three main axes:

  • Human Resources: To enhance the quality of the postmaster and doctorate studies offered by the partner institutions by enhancing the quality of candidates to studies by ensuring the necessary research competences and skills.
  • Qualification Framework and Knowledge Base: To create a cooperative virtual environment, which will develop a qualification framework for the doctorate studies in architecture, will map the state of the art in ODL pedagogies and virtual mobility practices in architectural education and will remain open to possibilities to extend, prolong and develop the frame of their common initiatives and actions undertaken by this project.
  • Dissemination and Lifelong Learning: To offer life long learning opportunities to an open audience disseminating the research and experimentation results and keeping in touch the persons interested (architects, other professions, students, …) in the current debate on architecture and the main trends of architectural practice and experimentation.

More specifically the proposed project has as main objectives to:

  1. offer distance-learning e-modules addressed to the candidates of those programs helping them to obtain the necessary competences in order to develop creatively the necessary research skills for their doctoral or post–master studies. (ERAOpObj.6), (ERA.2.2.4. 2), (ERA.2.2.4. 5)
  2. offer a series of Lifelong Learning sessions (lectures, reports, presentations, data etc) for graduates and practising architects regarding the state of the art in architectural contemplation and theory, the current trends of architectural design and construction, the new materials and technological advances, the recent achievements in the domain of architectural research and experimentation. The aim of these sessions will be to keep professionals updated about the fast changing architectural trends and debate on theory and design. (LLPobj.a) (LLPObj.k) (ERA.2.2.4. 1), (ERA.2.2.4. 4)
  3. facilitate researchers in the doctorate programs of the participating institutions to keep working and collaborating virtually with the host institutions in case they, for financial or other reasons/commitments cannot prolong their stay in the city/country of those institutions. (ERAOpObj.2)
  4. enhance and reinforce the presence of the partner schools in the international competition of higher education institutions and to make them more attractive to a broader competitive academic environment in Europe and worldwide. (ERAOpObj.a)
  5. develop virtual international doctorate committees to supervise through e-meetings.
  6. create common assessment criteria and qualifications for the doctoral studies in architecture. (LLPObj.j) (ERAOpObj.a)
  7. map the ODL pedagogies and virtual mobility practices implemented in the last 5 years in architectural education in terms of their pedagogical strategies, educational objectives and subject areas. (ERA.2.2.4. 3), (ERA.2.2.4. 5)
  8. investigate the extension of the e-Campus towards: 1. A virtual European post master course as a first taught part of doctorate studies. 2. A virtual European master course specialized in architectural research as a specific professional expertise.
