The Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering is located on the North Campus, although it also has smaller premises on the Sant Cugat, Terrassa and Vilanova i la Geltrú campuses. It conducts research in applied physics at several research facilities. In Terrassa, it has a laser dynamics laboratory, a photonic crystals and non-linear optics laboratory and a dielectric materials physics laboratory. In Barcelona, it has a mineral characterization laboratory and a fusion energy engineering laboratory.

The Vallès section of the Department is the responsible for teaching the subjects in ETSAV studies.
